Organisations across the UAE now have until August 14 to apply for the fourth cycle of the Parent-friendly Label, the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority announced this week — a two-week extension from the original 31 July deadline that reflects mounting institutional appetite for the workplace accreditation.

The extension follows strong interest from organizations across the UAE since the application window opened, giving semi-government, private, and third-sector employers additional time to complete nomination files for the voluntary award programme. This year, the programme has also been expanded on a pilot basis to include government entities for the first time, a structural shift launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Family that aligns with the UAE's designation of 2026 as the Year of the Family.

The Parent-friendly Label operates as a quality-mark framework, assessing applicants against 19 criteria that organisations can adopt in order to be recognised and awarded for their parent-friendly policies, practice and culture. All applications will undergo a rigorous assessment based on 19 criteria across five categories, such as parental leave, flexible work, family care, family wellbeing and culture, with an independent panel of expert judges ensuring anonymised, objective evaluation.

Successful applicants earn one of two classifications: the standard Parent-friendly Label for organisations exceeding local leading practices, or the PFL+ designation for those meeting or surpassing global benchmarks. The label is valid for two years, with a check-in with the organisation after the first year.

The programme's trajectory underscores a measurable shift in employer mandates around work-life integration. Since 2021, the Parent-friendly Label has positively impacted 311,000+ employees across the UAE, and more than 1 million worldwide as multinational earners extend policies to international offices. 83 organizations across 25 industries completed a rigorous application process in the third cycle, representing a 10 per cent increase in applications from the second iteration, with 163,000 employees in the UAE directly supported—105,000 of them parents, including 60,000 with children under eight years old and 2,250 parents of Children of Determination.

The third cycle, concluded in 2024, demonstrated sector diversification beyond early adopters. For the last cycle, 75 organisations from 23 industries applied to earn the label, with educational institutions constituting the highest percentage of applicants at 19 per cent, followed by professional services at 15 per cent. The voluntary workplace programme awarded the label to 12 local and international organisations operating in the UAE. Of the 12 organisations that earned the PFL, HSBC, Ethara and TAQA Transmission earned the PFL+ classification for meeting or exceeding global standards in parent-friendly policies and practices.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally honoured third-cycle recipients at Qasr Al Bahr in July 2025, reinforcing sovereign-level backing for the initiative. The first cycle in 2021 recognised six organisations — HSBC, Masdar, Emirates Nature-WWF, Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, Etihad Airways, and Silal — establishing the archetype for subsequent expansion.

The fourth cycle introduces a stronger emphasis on policy innovation. A stronger emphasis will be placed on policy innovation, including flexible work, childcare benefits, and family support funds, with the programme positioned as a catalyst for the UAE's ambition to become a leading global destination for parent-friendly workplaces by 2030.

The pilot expansion to government entities represents a structural recalibration of the programme's scope. Launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Family, the pilot phase marks the first-time government entities have been invited to participate, expanding support for working parents in line with the UAE's national priorities for family wellbeing and stability. Teams from the Ministry and ECA will work with local and federal bodies to refine assessment criteria for public-sector dynamics.

For employers, the programme offers more than reputational capital. Irrespective of the application's final result, PFL provides all applicant organisations with a comprehensive and complementary feedback report stating their strengths and areas for improvement to assist them in their journey towards becoming a parent-friendly workplace — a diagnostic mechanism that functions as a no-cost organisational audit on family-care infrastructure.

Employee sentiment data from the third cycle reveals retention and productivity compression. Survey results from over 11,000 employees showed 77 per cent would recommend their employer as parent-friendly, while 68 per cent cited organisational support as a factor encouraging tenure of two years or more.

Applications for the fourth cycle remain open through the official portal at parentfriendlylabel.ae until the revised deadline of 14 August 2026. Organisations must have operated in the UAE for a minimum of two years to qualify, with no application fee required. The assessment process, managed by an independent third party, typically concludes with label announcements several months post-deadline, maintaining the programme's two-year award validity cycle.
